Half hinged between green and gold

Half hinged between green and gold
in the grey ice of a mid-June garden
grapevines swarm upon the fences,
bright patens on the day.
Caught in a cold early morning sun
these are moments
between wind and rain
and the certainty
of their split-second colour
depends upon the instant
accident of an eye.
Dullness is in everything
and everywhere,
held for the moment
from the flutter to fall and garden rake.
Tomorrow they will be an unkempt
litter on the lawn,
now they are a bloom of lights
in winter's bleak dark living room.

These poems are from my new collection IN THE APRICOT DARKNESS (view the cover and contents below in my recent posts). They are now being published individually, daily under 'recent posts' on my blog and will be available shortly as an eBook that can be read online or downloaded for free.
